Report: The Internet of Things Will Need NoSQL

A new report from Machina Research says that while traditional relational databases will play a role in the Internet of Things (IoT), NoSQL databases will be necessary for “managing more heterogeneous data generated by millions and millions of sensors, devices and gateways.”

The study suggests that developers who want to work on IoT projects should gain some experience with NoSQL databases. A separate report from VisionMobile forecasts that the industry will need 4.5 million IoT developers by 2020. And while there are currently tens of thousands of developers with NoSQL experience on their resumes, hundreds of thousands will be necessary to meet the growing demand.
