Ruby Surges in Popularity Ratings

In the May update to the Tiobe Index, which measures the popularity of programming languages, Ruby climbed up to 8th place. A year ago, it was 15th on the list, but it now has its highest ranking since 2008.

At the other end of the spectrum, C continues to decrease in popularity. Once the most popular language on the list, C remains in the second place slot, but this month it fell 3.62 points to a 13.223 percent rating. By comparison, number one Java has a 20.956 percent rating.

The top five on the May list were Java (20.956 percent), C (13.223 percent), C++ (6.698 percent), C# (4.481 percent) and Python (3.789 percent).
