According to Gartner, organizations spent a total of $15.9 billion in the application infrastructure and middleware (AIM) software market in 2009. “All factors considered, in 2009 the AIM market performed better than most software segments,” said Fabrizio Biscotti, research director at Gartner. “On the back of strong drivers, such as service-oriented architecture (SOA) and business process management (BPM) adoption and buoyant demand for application integration, the overall AIM market has remained positive, unlike most software segments, where revenues generally declined.”
The leading AIM vendors include IBM (31.5 percent market share), Oracle (16.7 percent market share), and Microsoft (3.9 percent market share).
