Starfield Shattered Space deep dive trailer released

Bethesda Softworks released a deep dive trailer for the “Shattered Space” downloadable content (DLC) for Starfield. The expansion launches on September 30 for Xbox Series and PC. In “Shattered Space,” players visit the homeworld of House Va’ruun for the first time.

They explore a handcrafted new location and unravel mysteries surrounding the followers of the Great Serpent. House Va’ruun is on the brink of collapse, and their people need help finding a path forward. When players arrive on the hidden planet, some view their presence as divine intervention.

Players must restore House Va’ruun and decide the fate of this secretive faction.

“From the minute you arrive on Va’ruun’kai, the story never sends you off planet,” Tim Lamb, lead creative producer, stated. “You’re free to leave at any time, but the story is fully centered around life on the Va’ruun home world.”

The developers stressed that the entirety of the expansion takes place on the planet.

They wanted players to explore every part of the location and find clues about the Va’ruun people and what happened to them. Before the start of “Shattered Space,” a secret experiment involving Grav-Drive technology went wrong. It resulted in a massive tear in space-time that swallowed a portion of the Va’ruun capital of Dazra.

Shattered Space exploration and mysteries

Players arrive a few weeks after the Vortex Incident, with the events still fresh. The city has a massive crater, and people are still searching for missing loved ones.

The Scaled Citadel, seat of Va’ruun power, is trapped within a strange energy field. Anasko Va’ruun, leader of the Va’ruun people and Speaker for the Great Serpent, is among the missing. In his absence, the minor Houses of Va’ruun are vying for control.

Va’ruun’kai and Dazra City have a distinct visual identity. The extraterrestrial landscape and gravity anomalies make it look truly “alien.” Much of the planet is dangerous, with areas abandoned and taken over by zealots, spacers, and the Crimson Fleet. Creatures like the Vortex Horror can slip through the broken barriers between reality and the Vortex, creating terrifying ambush scenarios.

“Shattered Space” features more chaotic, aggressive, in-your-face combat, in contrast to the distance shooting of the base game. As players explore, they uncover the truth of what happened, become entangled in the political feud between the minor Houses, and ultimately decide the fate of House Va’ruun. Owners of the Premium or Constellation Editions of Starfield get “Shattered Space” as part of their original purchase.

Owners of the base edition can purchase the Premium Upgrade for access to “Shattered Space” plus other digital items.
