How To Allow Pop-Ups on iPhone
Some websites require pop-ups to work properly — for login windows, payment processing, file downloads, or verification forms. If a website isn’t loading correctly because pop-ups are blocked, here’s how to allow pop-ups on iPhone in Safari, Chrome, and other browsers.
How To Allow Pop-Ups in Safari on iPhone
Allow Pop-Ups for All Websites:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap Safari
- Find "Block Pop-ups" under the General section
- Toggle it off (the switch turns gray)
Pop-ups are now allowed for all websites in Safari.
Allow Pop-Ups for a Specific Website:
Starting in iOS 17+, Safari lets you manage settings per website:
- Open Safari and navigate to the website that needs pop-ups
- Tap the "aA" button in the address bar
- Tap "Website Settings"
- Turn off "Block Pop-ups" for this specific site
This keeps pop-ups blocked everywhere else while allowing them only where you need them.
How To Allow Pop-Ups in Chrome on iPhone
- Open the Chrome app
- Tap the three dots (···) at the bottom right
- Tap "Settings"
- Tap "Content Settings" (or "Site Settings")
- Tap "Pop-ups and redirects"
- Toggle to "Allow"
How To Allow Pop-Ups in Firefox on iPhone
- Open Firefox
- Tap the hamburger menu (☰) at the bottom
- Tap "Settings"
- Look for "Block Pop-up Windows"
- Toggle it off
How To Allow Pop-Ups in Microsoft Edge on iPhone
- Open Edge
- Tap the three dots (···) at the bottom
- Tap "Settings" → "Site permissions"
- Tap "Pop-ups and redirects"
- Toggle to Allow
When Should You Allow Pop-Ups?
Common situations where you need pop-ups enabled:
- Banking websites — many bank login and verification windows use pop-ups
- Payment processing — PayPal, Stripe, and checkout flows often open pop-up windows
- Government/official sites — tax filing, ID verification, and document downloads
- Cloud storage — Google Drive, OneDrive download confirmations
- Online forms — some survey tools and registration forms use pop-ups
- Captcha/verification — "I’m not a robot" checks sometimes need pop-ups
Re-Enabling Pop-Up Blocker After
Once you’re done with the website that needed pop-ups, it’s a good idea to turn the blocker back on:
- Go to Settings → Safari
- Toggle "Block Pop-ups" back on
This protects you from unwanted advertising pop-ups and potentially malicious sites.
Troubleshooting
Website Still Not Working After Allowing Pop-Ups:
- Clear Safari cache: Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data
- Try a different browser: If Safari isn’t working, try Chrome
- Disable content blockers: Settings → Safari → Extensions → turn off any ad blockers temporarily
- Check JavaScript: Make sure JavaScript is enabled: Settings → Safari → Advanced → JavaScript → On
- Update iOS: Some pop-up issues are fixed in iOS updates
Pop-Ups Keep Appearing After Blocking:
- Make sure "Block Pop-ups" is toggled ON in Settings → Safari
- Install a content blocker from the App Store for additional protection
- Check if you accidentally allowed a specific site’s pop-ups in Website Settings
