By the DevX mobile team. We tested Samsung Smart View on Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S24, Galaxy A54, and Galaxy Tab S9 running One UI 7 (Android 15). We verified screen mirroring to Samsung Smart TVs (2022-2026 models), Roku, and Fire TV. Last verified March 2026.
What Is Samsung Smart View?
Samsung Smart View is a built-in feature on Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets that lets you wirelessly mirror your phone’s screen to a compatible TV. You can also use it to cast videos, photos, and music without mirroring your entire screen. It works with Samsung Smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and any TV with a Chromecast or Miracast receiver.
How to Use Smart View on Samsung Galaxy
Step 1: Connect to the Same Wi-Fi Network
Both your Samsung phone and TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is the most common reason Smart View can’t find your TV.
Step 2: Open Smart View
- Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel
- Swipe down again to expand the full panel
- Tap the Smart View icon (it looks like a screen with a play triangle)
- If you don’t see it, tap the + or Edit button to add Smart View to your quick tiles
Step 3: Select Your TV
- Smart View will scan for available devices
- Tap your TV name from the list
- If prompted, select Start now or Allow on the TV
- Your phone screen will now appear on the TV
Smart View vs Screen Mirroring: What’s the Difference?
Samsung uses both terms, but there’s a key distinction:
- Smart View (Screen Mirroring): Shows your entire phone screen on the TV in real-time. Everything you do on your phone appears on the TV, including notifications.
- Smart View (Content Casting): Sends specific content (a YouTube video, Netflix show, or photo gallery) to the TV while you continue using your phone normally.
When you tap Smart View from Quick Settings, you get screen mirroring. When you tap the cast icon inside an app like YouTube or Samsung Gallery, you get content casting.
How to Cast Videos with Smart View
- Open the app you want to cast from (YouTube, Netflix, Samsung Gallery, etc.)
- Look for the Cast icon (a rectangle with Wi-Fi waves) in the video player
- Tap the Cast icon and select your TV
- The video plays on your TV while you can use your phone for other tasks
Smart View to Non-Samsung TVs
Roku TV
- On your Roku TV, go to Settings → System → Screen mirroring
- Set screen mirroring to Prompt or Always allow
- On your Samsung phone, open Smart View from Quick Settings
- Select your Roku TV from the device list
- Accept the connection prompt on the TV
Amazon Fire TV
- On your Fire TV, go to Settings → Display & Sounds → Enable Display Mirroring
- On your Samsung phone, open Smart View
- Select your Fire TV from the list
Any TV with HDMI (Using a Chromecast or Adapter)
If your TV isn’t a smart TV, you can use a Google Chromecast dongle ($30) plugged into an HDMI port. Then use Smart View or Google Home to cast to it.
Troubleshooting Smart View
Smart View Not Finding TV
- Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network (not different bands like 2.4GHz vs 5GHz)
- Restart both your phone and TV
- On your TV, check that screen mirroring is enabled
- Disable any VPN on your phone
Lag or Stuttering During Mirroring
- Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
- Close unused apps on your phone to free up memory
- Switch to 5GHz Wi-Fi for better bandwidth
- Reduce your phone’s screen resolution temporarily
No Sound on TV
- Check TV volume and that the correct input is selected
- Toggle Smart View off and back on
- Some apps restrict audio output during casting — try using the TV’s built-in app instead
FAQ
Is Smart View free?
Yes. Smart View is completely free and built into every Samsung Galaxy phone. There are no subscriptions or additional downloads required.
Can I use Smart View while using other apps?
When screen mirroring, everything on your screen shows on the TV. When content casting (from YouTube, Netflix, etc.), you can use your phone normally while the content plays on the TV.
Does Smart View work with Apple TV?
Not directly. Apple TV doesn’t support Miracast. However, you can use third-party apps like AirScreen on Apple TV to receive Samsung Smart View connections.
