Vibrant Event Celebrates Diversity in Black Entrepreneurship

Vibrant Diversity

Last week, Dwight Street was abuzz with a vibrant event celebrating Black businesses. Over 100 attendees were lured by the empowering spirit and a diverse showcasing of entrepreneurial talent. Coffee tasting was the main affair, delivered by Black-owned local coffee shops. This dynamic platform not only uplifted Black businesses but also accentuated the importance of diversity and representation in entrepreneurship.

Tisha Hudson, owner of Edible Couture, was amongst the inspiring speakers at the event. Formerly an employee at The Pension Service, Tisha chose to chase her dreams of owning a business following a huge demand for her pastries online. She spoke of resilience and the courage it takes to leave comfort zones and venture into the uncertain world of entrepreneurship. Her stirring words garnered applause, leaving a lasting, empowering impression on the audience.

Also featured was Broadleaf Collective, a unique service for cigar lovers run by Ian Mann and Lawrence Richards. They aspire to redefine the cigar experience with a Black-owned cigar lounge and to create local employment opportunities. The duo believes in entrepreneurship as a tool for promoting economic empowerment and equal rights.

Kiss Cafe, a third-generation Black-owned coffee business, was another notable participant. The owner, viewing the brand as a legacy to be passed down, highlighted the importance of community engagement. In line with this philosophy of community involvement, Kiss Cafe partnered with Gorilla Lemonade to further their brand presence and involve the local youth.

A surprise virtual appearance by Jadakiss, hip-hop sensation and part of Kiss Cafe’s three-generation ownership, elevated the event’s excitement. Gifted with experience and influence from both music and business, Jadakiss’ words emphasized the ongoing need for perseverance and belief amongst the upcoming generation of Black entrepreneurs. This memorable event fused empowerment, inspiration, and progression while showcasing the multifaceted potential of the Black business community.
