Changing Outlook’s Default E-mail Message

Changing Outlook’s Default E-mail Message

Question:
I want to change the format of the default e-mail message (IPM.Note). I have created a new form, but want it used whenever the user selects “New Message.” (I use Outlook 97 with Exchange Server 5.0.)

Answer:
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to substitute a custom form for the default form in Outlook 97. Outlook 2000 does add this capability, although it’s still not a simple matter.

What you need to do with Outlook 97 is not create a new default message item, but customize the existing one. Once your customized form is published, the users should get that version when they click “New Messages.”
