JavaFX™ @ the JavaOneSM Conference: Your "Must See" List...

JavaFX™ technology will be woven into the fabric of virtually all the JavaOneSM General Sessions this year. None of these sessions can be skipped. You'll hear from visionaries and technical leaders from the industry and Sun on current and future advancements in Java technology.

fact sheet

Since last year, the JavaFX™ platform has launched and is taking the world by storm. At the JavaOneSM conference, June 2 – 5, 2009, you'll see extraordinary new applications running on mobile phones as well as desktops in our many keynote presentations and all around the Conference. You'll take part in a brand-new interactive space on the show floor called "Java Utopia," where you can hack some code or get your questions answered by experts. You'll see our new JavaFX technology-based authoring tool designed to help you assemble assets, define animations, and publish your application on the Web and multiple screens.

You'll experience technical sessions that deep-dive into a wide range of topics focusing on JavaFX technology for mobile, JavaFX technology and Swing, JavaFX technology for TV, and more. At the BOFs, you'll get a chance to meet the developers of the JavaFX platform as well as many developers of JavaFX applications. There is so much to see and do that we've put together a list of must-see items. Print out this page, and use it as your JavaFX technology roadmap for the 2009 JavaOne conference.

JavaFX Technology in Keynote Presentations

JavaFX technology will be woven into the fabric of virtually all the JavaOne conference general sessions this year. None of these sessions should be skipped. You'll hear from visionaries and technical leaders from the industry and Sun about current and future advancements in Java technology. Chris Melissinos, Sun's "Chief Gaming Officer" (isn't that the coolest job title there is?) is hosting these sessions, and you just can't miss them.

Java™ Technology: Changing (Y)our World – In keeping with tradition, the JavaOne conference opening general session will be sure to knock your socks off. So make sure your shoes are tied tight, and get there early!

Intelligent Design: The Pervasive Java Platform – Bob Brewin highlights the pervasiveness of Java technology, from the smallest devices to the largest datacenters and clouds. Demos here tie the client to the cloud. Don't miss this one!

Your Java Technology Lifestyle: Mobile, TV, and Beyond – Eric Klein highlights key partners and ISVs that use Java and JavaFX technology to target mobile, TV, and other connected devices. Totally cool!

JavaFX Technology "Java Utopia"

Located right on the Pavilion floor, this laid back, couch-infested hotbed of innovation is something you simply can't miss. This is a completely new gig at the JavaOne conference. Designed to fuel your imagination and accelerate your creativity, this area offers the opportunity to meet the developers of the JavaFX platform, show off your own app on one of the big screens, listen to lightning talks, or participate in a coding fest and actually get something tangible done right there on the show floor!

JavaFX Technology Technical Sessions, BOFs, and Hands-on Labs (HOLs):

On JavaFX technology alone, there are more than 30 technical sessions, more than a dozen BOFs, and six Hands-on Labs. For a list of all the JavaFX technical sessions, BOFs, and HOLs, visit http://java.sun.com/javaone/2009/topics.jsp.

JavaFX Technology-Based Authoring Tool

Catch a preview of the JavaFX technology-based authoring tool, an online authoring environment geared toward simplifying the development and sharing of creative, rich Internet applications. The tool enables users to assemble a wide range of their existing graphics and multimedia assets, add animation and scripting to create new interactive content, and then distribute their work easily across all screens. You can learn about the tool at the general sessions and by visiting Java Utopia at the Pavilion.

JavaFX Technology-Based Games and Activities

"Duke Photo Booth" – The Duke Photo Booth is an interactive, viral JavaFX photo-sharing application. Located right on the main drag, it's where you can have your picture taken in front of a "green screen" and then add your friends, silly props, or famous Sun personalities to the shot. You can email your e-postcard to your colleagues back home that didn't get to go to the JavaOne conference. Or if your friends are at the show too, the postcard shows up in their Duke photo account as a background they can use to add more people and so on.

"The Tech Test Train" – The Tech Test Train is an interactive e-Learning game, developed on the JavaFX platform, that includes JavaFX technology-related questions. This game is aimed at Java technology developers who are using JavaFX technology to build a GUI interface, and you can find it in Java Utopia, adjacent to the JavaFX technology booth. We are doing a demo, encouraging developers to play, and will have drawings throughout the day for prizes such as iPods.

"The Jump" – This is a massive, multiplayer JavaFX technology game (www.pietheory.com), and on June 2, you can participate by meeting the PIE characters and take part in a PIE video shoot.
