Session 3
Architecture Deep Dive
On Demand

Robert McGovern, Senior Project Manager, Infusion Development

Registration

The attendees in this session will see how the design choices employed in ASP.NET lead to a very different internal architecture than the Java Web framework. The attendees will learn how the ASP.NET architecture is constructed and see how to extend the framework to solve the same business needs as are handled in Java through Tapestry, Struts and other add-on Web frameworks. In addition, this session will provide detailed instruction on how to map Java Web components such as Java ServerFaces, and tag libraries into equivalent ASP.NET components.

Topics Covered:

• Request Lifecycle - The request lifecycle in ASP.NET is both similar to and different than the request lifecycle in a Java Web application. In this segment, the presenter will walk through both request life cycles illustrating the similarities and differences.

• Modules and Handlers - One of the most impressive features of ASP.NET is that you can literally extend or replace any component of the framework. In this segment, the presenter will show how to use HttpModules and HttpHandlers to replicate functionality found in Java frameworks such as Struts, Tapestry and Spring.

• Design Patterns - In this last segment, the presenter will cover several of the most commonly used Java Web design patterns and show how the same patterns can (or shouldn't) be applied to ASP.NET applications. This segment will dive into best practice architectures for Web Applications in ASP.NET.
