Java and NT Services

Question:
How can I run a Java server application as an NT service?

Answer:
You can run a Java server appliation as an NT service if you use the Microsoft SDK for Java. You can download the latest version from Microsoft's web site. The SDK includes a package called com.ms.service which contains a Service class, with which NT services can be created. You also need to turn the Java application into an executable NT service using the jntsvc.exe utility provided with the SDK. If you look in the bin directory of the SDK, there is a jntsvc subdirectory which contains jntsvc.exe and an example Java program implementing an NT service. More information is available in the Microsoft SDK for Java documentation.
