Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has unveiled a new managed data center hosting service in the UAE in collaboration with Khazna Data Centres (Khazna), a leading provider of cutting-edge hyper scale data center solutions. This new service aligns with the UAE’s national artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, encompassing AI initiatives in partnership with leading regional institutions. Designed specifically for high-performance computing (HPC) technologies tailored for AI, the service includes computing, accelerated computing, software, networking, and direct liquid-cooling (DLC) capabilities.

The investment in a DLC data center, which is significantly more energy-efficient than traditional air cooling, supports the UAE’s efforts to meet the rising power demands in the AI era, anticipated to increase tenfold by 2026, according to the International Energy Agency. This new data center facility addresses power consumption challenges by effectively dissipating more heat through a liquid-based coolant solution, offering a 20.7 percent higher performance per kilowatt than air-cooled alternatives. The DLC technology also allows the facility to reduce the need for space by up to 77.5 percent, enabling customers to deploy fewer, more densely packed servers within the racks.

HPE Services provided global, 24/7 onsite and remote system installation and deployment support. They collaborated closely with Khazna to optimize its Abu Dhabi data center for AI and HPC workloads to expedite the transition to production.

Launching UAE AI-focused data center

Through HPE GreenLake, both new and existing customers have flexible options to scale and pay for services every month.

“HPE is bringing its world-leading direct-liquid cooled HPC capabilities to establish the first data center facility of its kind in the UAE, making it readily available for customers in the region to run AI and other compute-intensive workloads,” said Ahmad Alkhallafi, Managing Director, Emirates & Africa at HPE. With a wide array of technology, deployment, and payment options, organizations can responsibly accelerate AI adoption while working towards the UAE’s goals and timelines to adopt practices that mitigate environmental impact.”

Compatible with a broad range of GPUs and CPUs, the integrated liquid-cooled data center technology offers customers numerous choices to meet current and future system requirements. By reducing energy consumption per workload, the efficiencies gained from direct on-chip liquid cooling will assist customers in their journey to responsibly manage the carbon emissions associated with AI’s power-intensive demands.

“We are delighted to support HPE’s customers in maximizing their compute power to advance critical initiatives in sectors such as energy, financial services, health and life sciences, and manufacturing, all while adopting IT sustainability best practices,” said Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO at Khazna. Access to highly efficient data center systems will be pivotal in helping the UAE anticipate and leverage revolutionary technologies like AI, supporting its goal of creating a more environmentally sustainable economy by providing world-class data center facilities.

HPE brings decades of expertise in liquid cooling technology and continues to build extensive liquid-cooled systems worldwide, scaling to tens of thousands of accelerators for optimal efficiency. According to the recent Green500 list, HPE constructed 70 per cent of the world’s top ten energy-efficient systems using liquid-cooled solutions.

The new data centre hosting service, equipped with HPE’s liquid-cooling technology, aligns with the UAE government’s objective to reduce the nation’s emissions to below 100 kilowatt-hours.
