Apple has announced that a key Apple Intelligence feature will come to the Apple Watch with iOS 18.1. This feature will provide notification summaries directly on the Apple Watch. One of the main features of Apple Intelligence is its advanced language tools. These include priority messages in Mail and Smart Reply suggestions.
Notification summaries provide a brief overview of a message’s contents directly within notifications.
Apple Intelligence is going to be many people’s first introduction to AI & the GPT-3.5-level (or below) quality for a few applications, while useful for their intended purpose, are going to completely mis-set their expectations for what models can do. https://t.co/BwUzkZclt6

For example, if you have multiple unread Messages notifications on your Apple Watch, the summary will update to reflect all the missed content. This offers a quick look at what matters most.
While the Apple Watch does not directly use Apple Intelligence, it benefits through its paired iPhone.
There are so many good ads Apple could run with the first set of Intelligence features and I hope they don't bungle it and focus on more things that are coming down the road instead.

Enhanced Apple Watch notifications
The intelligent notifications feature, introduced with iOS 18.1, works well on the Apple Watch due to its small screen.
This enhancement feels made for watchOS, making the most of what’s available without needing new hardware. As long as your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, your Apple Watch will get these improved notifications. While not all Apple Intelligence features work for the Apple Watch, notification summaries show how AI can enhance the device.
Future updates may bring other features, like AI-powered Smart Reply suggestions for links. This proves the use of Apple Intelligence in watchOS. Despite limits that prevent native AI on the Watch, notification summaries show the benefits of Apple’s AI technology for the wearable device.
