The issue has spread online and affected the device’s Amazon star rating. Customers who have received their Kindle Colorsoft orders say the yellow band is most noticeable when the screen is supposed to be evenly lit and colored like paper.
Some have requested replacements, while others only noticed the problem under certain conditions. It is currently unknown if the issue is caused by hardware or software flaws. A customer service agent seemed to confirm that Amazon is working on a fix.
Multiple people mentioned the issue appeared after an initial software update. Amazon spokesperson Jill Tornifoglio confirmed the company is aware of the reports from a small number of customers. “We take the quality of our products seriously and are looking into it.

Andrew Liszewski, who is testing the device for Gizmodo, said the discoloration is more obvious in pictures than in real life. He would not have noticed if not for others’ complaints. The $279.99 Kindle Colorsoft is Amazon’s first foray into color e-readers.
The company has not provided a timeline for a potential fix to the reported screen issue.
