Backblaze Runs a Fire Sale on Cloud Storage

Backblaze, a cloud backup vendor, is getting into the infrastructure as a service cloud storage business, and it is setting its prices extremely low in a direct challenge to Amazon, Google and Microsoft Azure. While the more well-known cloud computing services sell storage for around two cents or more per gigabyte per month, Backblaze is charging half a cent per gigabyte per month, and the first 10 GB is free.

The company hopes that the low prices will encourage enterprise developers to use its services for large-scale applications. Those who are interested can sign up for the beta trials now; the service will become publicly available before the end of the year.
