Virgin Media, one of the UK’s largest broadband providers, is experiencing significant outages this morning. Thousands of Britons are without internet access. The disruption began around 10:30 am, as reported by DownDetector.

Over 9,600 incidents have been logged so far. Seventy-two percent of affected users are struggling with landline internet. Others face a complete blackout or issues with the Virgin Media website.

A spokesperson for Virgin Media stated, “We’re aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with their services. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to fix this as a priority.”

The outage has caused widespread disruption, especially for remote workers. Some customers have difficulty accessing Microsoft Services, including Microsoft Teams, Office 365, and Xbox Live.

Customers expressed their frustrations on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Virgin Media outage disrupts UK internet

“Is Virgin Media’s internet down? Is it problematic for anyone else this morning?

East London area,” one user tweeted. Another commented, “The audacity for @virginmedia to charge some of the prices they do when their WiFi is so glitchy, all the time.” Many have noted that these disruptions frequently occur. Reports from affected users indicate that while WiFi may be operational, specific services like VPN connections used for remote work are not functioning correctly.

This has exacerbated the situation, as the outage comes on a Monday morning when remote work is at its peak. This latest outage follows a series of service interruptions in the past 24 hours. Virgin Media customers faced issues accessing certain gaming services, such as Xbox Live and servers for the game Destiny 2, just yesterday.

Virgin Media acknowledged these gaming issues in a post on X, stating, “We’re aware some customers are experiencing difficulty accessing some gaming services via Virgin Media broadband. Our network teams are currently investigating the issue.”

Some customers are threatening to switch providers in response to these repeated disruptions. Despite the ongoing issues, Virgin Media has yet to provide a detailed explanation for the cause of today’s extensive outage or the recent service interruptions affecting gaming services.
