Windows 11 update adds new AI features

Microsoft has introduced AI shortcuts, called AI actions, into the File Explorer in Windows 11. These new features let users right-click on a file and use AI-powered tools. Users can blur the background of a photo, erase objects, or summarize content from Office files.

Four image actions are being tested in Windows 11. They include Bing visual search to find similar images online, background blur and object erasure features like in the Photos app, and a background removal option in Paint. Microsoft also plans to add these AI actions to Office files.

This will allow users to summarize documents stored in OneDrive or SharePoint or make AI-crafted lists from files. At first, this feature will only be available to Microsoft 365 commercial subscribers with a Copilot license. Consumer support is expected to come later.

An “Ask Copilot” option has also been added to the File Explorer’s right-click menu. This lets users directly interact with AI tools.

Along with these AI improvements, Microsoft is testing visual changes to the widgets feature in Windows 11. The updates promise a more organized, personalized, and engaging feed. Copilot-curated stories will also be integrated into the widgets.

The latest Dev Channel build introduces a new “User Interaction-Aware CPU Power Management” feature. It is designed to reduce power use on laptops and tablets. According to the Windows Insider team, this OS-level change saves power automatically after periods of inactivity.

It restores full performance instantly when the user returns. These updates are part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to improve user experience through AI and efficiency enhancements in Windows 11.
