Nintendo has been working hard to ensure a smooth transition for gamers as the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 approaches on June 5. The company recently updated its compatibility list, revealing that nearly all first-party Switch games will work on the new console. However, there is one notable exception: Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit.

The Switch 2 is too large to fit into the Toy-Con VR Goggles, making it impossible to play the game on the new system. Nintendo has also been collaborating with third-party publishers to address compatibility issues.

Switch 2 compatibility details

Around 50 games currently have “start-up issues,” while another 54 may experience “in-game compatibility problems.” The company is actively testing more titles and releasing patches to fix these problems by launch or shortly after. Some popular streaming apps, such as Hulu and Crunchyroll, will not be compatible with the Switch 2 at launch. It remains unclear whether updated versions of these apps will be released for the new console.

Despite these challenges, the vast majority of first-party Nintendo titles and most significant third-party games will be playable on the Switch 2. In some cases, like Ring Fit Adventure, players may need to connect an original Switch Joy-Con to the new console for the game to function properly. As the launch date approaches, Nintendo fans can look forward to enjoying their favorite games on the Switch 2, with the promise of enhanced gameplay experiences and functionality.
