Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced major expansions to its Aruba Networking wired and wireless portfolio. The new offerings aim to meet the growing demands of AI and high-performance computing. The Aruba Networking CX 10K distributed services switches feature built-in programmable data processing units from AMD Pensando.

These switches are designed to offload security and network services, freeing up resources for AI workload processing. The Aruba Networking CX 10040 is the latest in HPE’s line of “smart switches.” This model doubles the scale and performance of previous networking and security solutions. It includes an AMD Pensando data processing unit that supports AI-driven computing while maintaining built-in firewalling, in-line encryption, and telemetry.

HPE has also introduced four new Aruba Networking CX 6300M campus networking switches. These switches provide faster data speeds for enterprise IoT, AI, or high-performance computing within a more compact footprint. They are designed to meet multiple types of data security, volume, and bandwidth service level agreements on a single switch.

New Wi-Fi 7 access points and capabilities are also part of the expanded portfolio. The indoor Aruba Networking 720 and 740 Series, along with the indoor/outdoor 760 Series, feature dynamic application prioritisation to support the real-time computing needs of AI and cloud-delivered applications.

The integration of Morpheus VM Essentials with the Aruba CX 10000 Switch Series will assist organizations in unifying the orchestration of virtual and physical network and security services. Cisco Systems’ entry into the market with its Nexus 9300 series validates the growing importance of smart switches. HPE’s John Gray sees this as confirmation of the distributed services switch category pioneered by HPE.

HPE’s recent advancements reflect the company’s ongoing innovation across its network solutions portfolio. With the goal of aligning more closely with evolving enterprise networking needs, HPE continues to enhance its offerings with more CX series switches and Wi-Fi access points, all managed centrally via HPE Aruba Central. As HPE Aruba Networking continues to integrate advanced technologies and simplify network management, enterprises are better positioned to modernize their infrastructure efficiently and cost-effectively.

The gradual adoption of DPUs reflects the industry’s evolving standards, driven by leading cloud providers showcasing the value of SmartNICs and DPUs. HPE’s advancements in integrating DPUs into network switches represent a significant leap forward in datacenter efficiency, security, and capability. As the technology matures, its applications may expand to address even broader computing needs, including high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
