Google has quietly rolled out a significant update to its AI, Gemini. The update allows Gemini Pro and Ultra users to schedule actions, making it do recurring tasks or perform tasks at specific times. Dave Citron, Senior Director of Product Management for the Gemini app, said, “Now you can wake up with a summary of your calendar and unread emails, or get a creative boost by having Gemini write five ideas for your blog every Monday.
Stay informed by getting updates on your favorite sports team or schedule a one-off task, like asking Gemini to give you a summary of an award show the day after it happens. Just tell Gemini what you need and when, and it will take care of the rest.
The update is already accessible to those subscribed to Gemini Pro and Ultra, as well as users on qualifying Google Workspace business and education plans. In the competitive world of AI, tech companies are pushing to develop the most advanced AI agents.
Scheduled actions enhance Gemini’s utility
While Apple’s Siri was an early player, its functionalities have not kept pace with those of ChatGPT, Claude, and now Gemini. Apple did plan an overhaul for Siri, but internal turmoil has delayed these efforts.
Despite their partnership with OpenAI and utilizing ChatGPT for some of its services, Apple’s advancements have lagged behind industry leaders. They are not expected to have major AI announcements at their upcoming event. Google’s enhancements to Gemini signal a bold move in the AI sector, potentially reshaping user interactions with technology.
Whether this update will position Google ahead of its competitors remains to be seen, but for now, it appears they have made a significant leap.
