Statisticians have used the open source R language for data analysis, predictive modeling and visualization for many years. After two years in business, commercial R vendor Revolution Computing is re-branding itself as Revolution Analytics and making plans to provide new tools and capabilities to users.
“We’ve seen R really start to spill over into the commercial world in recent years,” said company COO Jeff Erhardt. “Today, R is memory-bound and cannot handle large data sets, so we’ll be bringing out in the near future a solution for handling massive datasets in the terabyte and petabyte range.” He also revealed that they have plans for a “modern, flexible and extensible thin client user interface that can bridge the gap between expert users and the more casual business analysts.”
