MuleSoft Launches Cloud-Based Tomcat Web App Server

Software company MuleSoft has announced the availability of “Cloudcat” a virtual image of the Tomcat Web server that makes it easier to develop and test Web apps in the cloud. Currently Cloudcat is available through Amazon Web Services (runs on Canonical Ubuntu) for 35 cents per hour or through GoGrid (runs on RedHat Enterprise Linux) for $29 per month.

“Anything that runs on a Java servlet container can be deployed on Tomcat. These are typically lighter-weight Web applications that need good scalability,” said MuleSoft vice president Chris Purpura. However, Cloudcat does not include the full Java stack, so it’s not suitable for use as an enterprise Java server.
