Every year, the Eclipse Foundation releases a “train” of updates for the Eclipse IDE and related tools. Unlike recent releases, which have focused on extending the platform to platforms like PHP and Ajax, this year’s train, codenamed “Indigo,” will focus on Eclipse’s Java roots. “Indigo’s one of the best things we’ve done for Java developers in years,” said Mike Milinkovich, Eclipse executive director. “[It is] certainly exciting to see Eclipse getting back to its roots as a kick-ass Java environment.”
Indigo, scheduled for release on June 22, will offer early access to Java 7 features, a new “WindowBuilder” GUI tool, EGit 1.0 and better Maven tools.
