MasterCard has announced the availability of an API for the creation of both desktop and mobile applications. They’ve also launched a new portal dubbed “MasterCard Labs” with a variety of support materials for developers interested in using the new tool.
In addition to the most obvious use — accepting mobile payments — the company also believes developers could use the API for payroll systems, social networking applications, eWallets, and online games.
MasterCard Chief Innovation Officer Josh Peirez says they are “excited about tapping into the ingenuity of software developers around the globe to help create the next generation of game-changing payment applications.”
