Average Software Developer Salary Declines by $2K

Although there still seems to be strong demand for developers, a new report from the TechAmerica Foundation says that the average wage for jobs in the software services sector has fallen 2 percent. The average software worker made $99,000 in 2012, compared to $101,000 in 2011.

The software industry added 64,000 new jobs in 2012, and some experts say the addition of many low-skill workers new to the field may have pushed the salary average lower. Also, there are still many developers who lost their jobs in the recession that might be willing to take a new job for less pay.
