Microsoft Azure to Add OpenJDK Support

Microsoft had previously announced that its Azure cloud computing service would soon support Oracle Java, but now it is also planning to add support for an open source implementation of Java. Through a partnership with Azul Systems, Microsoft plans to support OpenJDK on Azure before the end of the year.

Azure plans to offer OpenJDK on both a PaaS and an IaaS basis. “It will be fully integrated into the Azure Eclipse PaaS IDE,” added Microsoft’s George Gould.
