Oracle Releases JDK 7 Update 40

Oracle has made Java SE Update 40 available for download from its website. Although this was a relatively minor update, the new version of the Java Development Kit (JDK) does include a couple of important changes of interest to developers. Notably, Java Mission Control, a Java virtual machine monitoring tool, is now included in the JDK.

A second important change, useful for enterprise application development teams, is the option of using deployment rule sets for Java applets and Web Start applications. It allows organizations to whitelist certain applications, allowing end users to bypass some security warnings.

The release also includes a number of bug fixes.
