Apple has purchased NoSQL database vendor FoundationDB. The forty-person startup offered both a community and a commercial version of its database, but downloads of those databases are no longer available through the company’s website or GitHub. That could leave developers currently using the database in a difficult position. The company has issued a statement which says, “We have made the decision to evolve our company mission and, as of today, we will no longer offer downloads.”
Apple isn’t saying how it plans to incorporate FoundationDB into its products and services. A spokesperson said, “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
