Kaspersky Incident Demonstrates the Importance of Testing

The security firm appears to have released an update without properly testing it.

Last week, security vendor Kaspersky released an update for its password safe software. Unfortunately, the update caused a serious problem for Windows 7 users, rendering the software inoperable and in some cases making it impossible for users to access their passwords.

Andrew Binstock with Dr. Dobb's builds a convincing case that Kaspersky must not have performed adequate testing. He writes that testing has "become such a standard part of development that its absence looks like the sign of a shop mired in the past ways of doing things or just too sloppy to care about the code they write."
