Lior Div, cofounder of Cybereason, is coming back in the cybersecurity industry with his new AI-based startup, 7AI, located in Boston. Div sold Cybereason to Japanese investment firm SoftBank two years ago and moved 7AI into a Back Bay office near his former company. 7AI aims to protect corporate computer networks from hackers using advanced artificial intelligence technology.
Div emphasized the need to counter the growing threat of cybercriminals and adversaries of the United States who are already using AI to enhance their hacking methods. The acceleration from generative AI will move us to a new realm of attack,” Div said. He explained that hackers can now use programs like ChatGPT to create more convincing emails containing malware and send them to many potential victims, increasing both the frequency and sophistication of attacks.
7AI plans to use generative AI technology to develop software agents that can simultaneously perform multiple tasks, such as monitoring and investigating many potential security threats, surpassing human capabilities.
Innovative AI-based cybersecurity solutions
The AI system can also be customized based on a company’s usual patterns to better detect new threats.
7AI currently has about 35 employees and secured $36 million in funding last year, which has financed its new office. Div has ambitious plans for rapid growth and new hires and praises Boston for its incredible talent pool. Trained in cybersecurity as part of the Israeli army’s renowned Unit 8200, Div believes his team can create an anchor company in the city.
“Boston deserves an anchor company to take this talent and push us forward,” he said. We’re going to do it with the Silicon Valley kind of swag because we’ve been there, done that, and we know what needs to be built. We’re just going to do it here in Boston.”
Noah Nguyen is a multi-talented developer who brings a unique perspective to his craft. Initially a creative writing professor, he turned to Dev work for the ability to work remotely. He now lives in Seattle, spending time hiking and drinking craft beer with his fiancee.
