AWS introduces new responsible AI tools

Responsible AI

AWS announced new responsible AI tools, capabilities, and resources at re:Invent 2024. These enhancements aim to improve the safety, security, and transparency of AWS AI services and models. They also help support customers’ own responsible AI journeys.

AWS is the first major cloud service provider to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification. This international management system standard outlines requirements for organizations to manage AI systems responsibly. An independent third party validated that AWS is taking proactive steps to manage risks and opportunities associated with AI.

In April 2024, AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Bedrock Guardrails. This makes it easier to apply safety and responsible AI checks for generative AI applications. Amazon Bedrock Guardrails deliver industry-leading safety protections by blocking harmful content and filtering hallucinated responses.

To address the challenge of hallucinations, AWS is adding new safeguards to Amazon Bedrock Guardrails. These help prevent factual errors due to foundation model hallucinations and offer verifiable proofs. AWS becomes the first major cloud provider to integrate automated reasoning in generative AI offerings.

Responsible AI advancements at AWS

Automated Reasoning checks help prevent factual errors using sound mathematical, logic-based verification and reasoning. AWS also introduced a new evaluation capability that utilizes an LLM-as-a-judge for model evaluations.

This allows organizations to perform tests and evaluate models with human-like quality on their datasets. Organizations can bring their own prompt dataset to customize the evaluation. AWS continues to offer full human-based evaluations for use cases requiring human annotators.

Additionally, AWS introduced RAG evaluation support, allowing organizations to assess and optimize RAG applications. Dr. Baskar Sridharan and Peter Hallinan from AWS believe the long-term success of AI depends on inspiring trust among users, customers, and society.

Responsible AI goes beyond mitigating risks and aligning with standards. It’s about proactively building trust and unlocking AI’s potential to drive business value. Studies highlight responsible AI as a key driver of business value, boosting product quality, operational efficiency, customer loyalty, and more.

AWS’s new responsible AI tools, capabilities, and resources help organizations manage AI risks and foster trust. This commitment ensures that as technology advances, it benefits businesses and society.
