“These numbers may sound big, but they are nothing compared to the cost of inaction,” said Mukhtar Babayev, the COP29 president. The urgency of the summit is clear. Disasters such as hurricanes, droughts, and floods are becoming more frequent and devastating.
Babayev said, “We are on the road to ruin. Whether you see them or not, people are suffering in the shadow of these disasters.”
