Sam Porter Bridges returns in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the sequel to Hideo Kojima’s unique cargo delivery game. The game takes place 11 months after the events of the first Death Stranding. Sam has settled into a quiet life in Mexico with his daughter, Lou, but his peace is shattered when a mysterious group in red attacks his home, killing Lou and injuring his former partner, Fragile.

Broken and lost, Sam agrees to join Fragile’s new company, Drawbridge, on a mission to reconnect Australia to the Chiral Network. The crew of the DHV Magellan, including characters played by Léa Seydoux, George Miller, Guillermo del Toro, Nicolas Winding Refn, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna, assist Sam on his journey. The game features enhanced combat mechanics and new enemies, including massive bosses and the Ghost Mech.

The Decima Engine and the power of the PlayStation 5 Pro allow for improved graphics, a day/night cycle, and stable 60fps gameplay. As Sam works to reconnect Australia, he discovers that the armed attackers are mechanical soldiers 3D printed by a reborn Higgs, the villain from the first game. Higgs is working with APAS, a corporation run by a sentient AI called APAS 4000 that aims to trap humanity in the world of the dead.

Fragile and the Drawbridge crew plan to stop APAS 4000 by using a device called the Q-Pid to sever the connection between the living and the dead. Sam battles Higgs and defeats him, but Fragile sacrifices herself in the process.
Sam also learns the truth about Lou, who was sent to another dimension by Fragile during the attack in Mexico. Lou grows up in the world of the dead and becomes a woman named Tomorrow. Sam rescues her and discovers she is his biological daughter, BB-28 from the first game.
The game’s ending reveals Sam’s past relationship with a therapist named Lucy, who also treated Neil Vana, a smuggler delivering brain-dead pregnant women for Bridges’ BB experiments. Sam and Lucy conceived Louise, but Lucy’s childhood bond with Neil complicated their relationship. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a complex and philosophical journey that explores themes of life, death, and human connection.
The game is set to launch on June 26 for the PlayStation 5.
