The gym can be an intimidating place. When I first started working out in 2012, I did so with a basic induction session and was then left to my own devices. While I got more familiar over time, my progress plateaued without real instruction or the funds for a personal trainer.
Enter Fitbod, an app I discovered a couple of years ago, which has since transformed my workouts. Having completed over 1,000 workouts with its help, Fitbod easily earned a spot in our best fitness app roundups. Here’s why I think it’s worth trying in 2025.
Fitbod caters perfectly to a task-oriented mindset by offering a ‘to-do list’ approach for workouts. Once a workout is generated, I can head to the gym, open the app, and hit “Start Workout” to get going. Fitbod’s constantly evolving algorithms mean I see a series of exercises that I can approach as I see fit.
Completing each item feels like ticking off tasks, almost gamifying the workout process. Fitbod’s workout reports are another huge motivator. They provide detailed insights and visual progress over weeks, months, or even years.
Fitbod app simplifies gym workouts
The app also awards “trophies” for new personal bests and includes a year-end summary similar to Spotify Wrapped, enriching the user experience. One of the toughest parts of gymming is knowing where to start.
Fitbod simplifies this by recommending workouts – from general fitness to Olympic weightlifting – and adjusts based on the equipment available and muscle recovery status. The app includes GIF guides to demonstrate exercises, ensuring users maintain proper form. A standout feature for me is Fitbod’s ability to integrate with other fitness apps.
While Fitbod tracks indoor and outdoor runs, it syncs with Strava and Apple Fitness for comprehensive activity data. This integration has made tracking workouts seamless, whether they’re gym sessions or leisurely walks, and has significantly boosted my overall fitness. Thanks to Fitbod, I’ve achieved strength training milestones I thought were unattainable a few years ago.
My fitness has improved markedly, and that’s why Fitbod’s iOS widget has a permanent spot on my home screen. Lloyd Coombes is a freelance tech and fitness writer.
