Google has introduced Sec-Gemini v1, an experimental AI model designed to assist security professionals with data analysis and other essential tasks in modern cybersecurity and vulnerability research. The model draws from multiple unique Google data streams, including Mandiant threat intelligence and the open-source vulnerabilities database. It outperforms other AI models like OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, and Mistral AI on several benchmarks, including its understanding of threat intelligence standards, detection strategies, mitigation plans, and best practices.

Marianna Tishchenko, group product manager for Sec Gemini, explained that the tool aims to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the workflows that defenders pursue to keep their organizations safe. Elle Bursztein, a security and anti-abuse research lead at Google, noted that Sec Gemini continuously ingests updated Google threat intelligence to provide near real-time information on security topics.

Sec Gemini enhances threat detection

Google plans to refine the model based on feedback from initial trials to better support identified use cases. Sec Gemini is initially free and will be accessible to a select group of organizations for testing. Casey Ellis, chief technology officer at BugCrowd, indicated that Sec Gemini’s benchmark testing shows it can handle complex workflows and that its integration with Mandiant threat intelligence may significantly reduce the time analysts spend collating data from various sources.

Like any large language model, Sec Gemini risks producing inaccuracies. Bursztein mentioned that Google mitigates these risks by continuously training Sec Gemini on precise data and heavily curating the data quality.
