Google announced the expansion of AI Overviews and the introduction of a new experimental feature called AI Mode.
Watch everyone get access to AI Mode but me… I will not be surprised 🤣

AI Overviews are getting an upgrade with Gemini 2.0, which can handle more complex questions, including coding, advanced math, and multimodal queries. The upgrade is expected to provide faster and higher-quality responses.
Additionally, the rollout now includes teens, and signing in will no longer be required for access. AI Mode is an advanced Search feature that utilizes Gemini 2.0’s capabilities for more sophisticated reasoning and multimodal functionalities. This mode allows users to ask any question and receive detailed AI-powered responses.

It is particularly useful for questions that require further exploration, comparisons, and complex reasoning. Users can ask follow-up questions or get helpful web links for a more comprehensive understanding.
In my latest blog post, I explained how AI Overview prevalence continues to surge as featured snippet prevalence drops. Well, it's continuing… Ziptie data shows AIO prevalence is nearing 20%.
That's overall, but certain query types are yielding much higher than that,… pic.twitter.com/73THt92U5i

AI Mode combines Google’s robust information systems with advanced AI models, making it easier to search for high-quality web content.
Expanding AI-driven search capabilities
It uses a “query fan-out” technique to bring together multiple related searches and offer a more complete and nuanced answer. Internal feedback and insights from trusted testers highlight the utility of AI Mode, especially its speed and response quality.
Google is expanding this testing to more users with a limited, opt-in approach to gather broader feedback and make rapid improvements. AI Mode is designed to provide accurate, AI-powered responses where possible. However, if confidence in helpfulness and quality is not high, traditional web search results will be displayed.
Google aims to continually refine the user experience based on ongoing feedback. They are working on new features, such as adding more visual responses, improving formatting, and finding innovative ways to link users to helpful web content. Starting today, a select group of subscribers will be invited to try AI Mode and provide feedback.
Google anticipates releasing further enhancements and capabilities based on user insights.
