Huawei has started rolling out the first HarmonyOS NEXT beta firmware for the Watch Fit 3. This marks an important step as the company expands its new software system to smartwatches following the Mate 70 series launch. The closed beta program for the Watch Fit 3 began on December 4, with Huawei inviting 3000 users to participate and explore new features ahead of the general release.

The key update features include a WeChat Watch Version, which allows users to view and reply to WeChat messages directly from the watch, including quick replies and voice replies. A new Screenshot Feature enables users to capture the watch’s screen and save the screenshot directly to the phone’s gallery.

Additionally, a new preset watch face called “Clock Tower” has been added, along with a Galaxy Ring Pairing Animation to make the pairing process more visually appealing. To sign up for the beta, HarmonyOS NEXT users can open the My Huawei App on their phone or tablet, tap on Upgrade and Try Out, and follow the on-screen prompts to register. Alternatively, users can scan the provided code or visit the WeChat Mini Program, navigate to Watch > Homepage > Click on Watch Fit 3 HarmonyOS NEXT Closed beta.

The changelog for the HarmonyOS NEXT Closed Beta includes the software version 5.0.0.12, the added WeChat Watch Version, the new Screenshot Feature, the “Clock Tower” Watch Face, and the new HarmonyOS Galaxy Ring Pairing Animation. Related updates include the Huawei Mate 70 series beginning public beta testing with HarmonyOS NEXT, Huawei announcing AI Messages support for 15 smartwatches, Huawei warning that tough sanctions on China could impact AI growth in Europe, and initial tests indicating that the Kirin 9020 is 20% more power-efficient than the Kirin 9000. For regular updates and registrations, users are encouraged to regularly check the My Huawei App or the official WeChat Mini Program.
