Jane Goodall, a world-renowned primatologist and conservationist, delivered a powerful message at an event organized by the Tzu Chi Foundation in Kuala Lumpur. Over 1,000 people attended the talk titled “Reasons for Hope.”

Goodall shared her experiences studying chimpanzees and advocated for environmental protection. She said, “Chimps have taught me the arrogance of humanity in claiming superiority over nature, reminding us to embrace humility and respect the interconnectedness of all living beings.”

She emphasized that intelligent humans would not destroy their world.

Goodall believes that powerful stories can inspire people to change for the better. I wake up every day and do what I do because I have grandchildren and care about them, as well as the animals, insects, trees, and the future of the world. As long as I live, I’ll keep doing what I do.

If my body fails, I’ll gradually slow down.

Goodall’s call for environmental unity

I just pray my mind stays healthy,” she shared.

Goodall founded Roots and Shoots, a youth-led action program, in 1991. It promotes compassion and respect for all living things and encourages young people to address environmental and humanitarian challenges. “Young people who want to help the planet should begin by volunteering.

It’s a way to understand the challenges people face today and work towards making the world a better place,” Goodall advised. The event concluded with Goodall’s call to action: “Together we can, together we will, together we must save the world.”

Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia has been promoting environmental conservation since 1995. The organization has established more than 160 recycling centers and over 1,000 recycling points nationwide.
