Dino Patti, co-founder of Jumpship, has reacquired the studio from Thunderful. Patti and Chris Olsen originally founded Jumpship in 2017 to develop the action-adventure game Somerville. After the game’s launch, Olsen left the company, and Patti took on an advisory role.

With the reacquisition, Patti is preparing to reboot Jumpship. He believes the current investment and publishing landscape in the gaming industry has gone stale and needs a complete overhaul to better serve developers and players. “Jumpship has always been about pushing the boundaries of emotions, storytelling, and innovation in gaming,” Patti said.

“I want to take the company in a completely new direction while staying true to that vision. This is more than just a business decision; it’s about reigniting the passion and vision that first sparked Jumpship – while taking it further than ever before.”

Alongside the Jumpship reacquisition, Patti has also obtained shares in Sad Owl Studios, the developer behind the indie game Viewfinder. Thunderful Games, which acquired Jumpship in 2022, recently underwent restructuring that resulted in over 100 layoffs.

Jumpship reborn with bold vision

Amid these changes, Patti saw an opportunity to regain control of Jumpship. “I sold my studio in 2022.

Today, I got it back. Today marks a new chapter for Jumpship,” Patti announced. Although the studio currently has no employees, Patti remains optimistic about the future.

Patti emphasized the need for fresh thinking in the gaming industry, particularly in how talent is treated. He plans to focus Jumpship’s new direction on “a bold reimagining of how talent can create and thrive,” along with a vision where synergy with great talent unlocks new possibilities. While specific details about Jumpship’s future projects were not disclosed, Patti assured fans that the studio remains committed to emotion-driven storytelling, gameplay, and innovation.
