Elon Musk has issued a public apology to former President Donald Trump following a heated dispute between the two over a bill currently before the U.S. Senate. The apology, posted on Musk’s X social media platform, marks a potential reconciliation after weeks of intense personal attacks and threats. “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week.
They went too far,” Musk wrote on June 10. Trump responded positively, telling the New York Post, “I thought it was very nice that he did that.
The conflict began in early June with a sharp disagreement over the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a piece of budget-reconciliation legislation. Musk criticized the bill as “massive, outrageous, pork-filled,” calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Trump countered by defending the bill, dismissing Musk’s criticisms as “false statements” and praising the bill for cutting “waste, fraud, and abuse.
The disagreement quickly escalated.
Musk took credit for Trump’s and the Republicans’ November victories and hinted at connections between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. In retaliation, Trump accused Musk of “going CRAZY” after the administration withdrew an electric vehicle mandate and threatened to revoke federal contracts with Musk’s companies. The reconciliation effort is notable, given Musk’s frequent presence in Palm Beach County following Trump’s election victory.
Musk was often seen at Mar-a-Lago during the transition period and reportedly considered purchasing a residence in the area. He was a frequent companion of Trump on Air Force One during several visits to the Winter White House.

However, Musk’s political involvement led to significant backlash. He became one of the most polarizing figures in American politics, with Tesla shares plummeting and public protests erupting at Tesla showrooms. One such protest near West Palm Beach nearly ended in tragedy when a car attempted to ram the demonstrators, eyewitnesses and a police report confirmed.
The recent apology and potential reconciliation may be a step towards mending the rift between the tech billionaire and the former president. Vice President JD Vance emphasized that Trump does not wish for a prolonged conflict with Musk. Vance noted that both men have had discussions about ongoing support for the administration.
Most Republicans are urging reconciliation, while Democrats observe the unfolding drama. The conflict occurred shortly after Musk resigned from heading the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), an initiative he once claimed would substantially cut federal spending. Former Trump aide Steve Bannon has even called for Musk’s deportation.
Nonetheless, the administration’s stance indicates a preference for mending fences, acknowledging Musk’s significant contributions and influence. The public continues to closely follow the developments of this high-profile feud, as Musk’s role and influence in the technological and political landscape remain significant.
