Musk softens stance towards President Trump

Elon Musk appears to be softening his stance towards President Donald Trump amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles. Last week, Musk called for Trump’s impeachment and made allegations about the president’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein. However, over the weekend, Musk deleted some of his most incendiary posts and showed support for the Trump administration’s handling of the situation in LA.

Musk shared a post from Vice President JD Vance, which stated that the president would not tolerate rioting and violence. He also responded positively to a video of Vance suggesting that if Musk “chills out a little bit everything will be fine.” Additionally, Musk re-followed White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, a key figure in the administration’s immigration policy. The tech billionaire also fact-checked his own AI chatbot, Grok, which had seemingly confirmed a fake image showing Musk writing a provocative post directed at Miller.

Musk clarified that the image was fake and that he had never posted such a message.

Musk mends rift with Trump

Despite the apparent thawing of tensions, Musk continued to express subtle opposition to Trump’s domestic policy bill, which passed the House and is now being considered in the Senate.

He reposted an article from the satirical site The Babylon Bee, which mocked Republicans for doing the opposite of what voters wanted. Wall Street analysts are cautiously optimistic about the delicate détente between Musk and Trump. Dan Ives from WedBush suggested that the two might slowly mend fences with the help of intermediaries behind closed doors.

Ives noted that Trump needs Musk to stay close to the Republican party, while Musk needs Trump’s support for various reasons, including a federal framework for autonomous vehicles. On Monday, Trump struck a slightly softer tone when asked about Musk, saying, “We had a good relationship, I wish him well, very well.” However, he did not confirm whether he would take Musk’s call if the billionaire reached out to him. As the situation in Los Angeles continues to unfold, the relationship between Elon Musk and President Trump remains a topic of interest for both the public and the financial markets.
