New Garmin Venu X1 smartwatch debuts

Garmin has unveiled the Venu X1, a new addition to its Venu series of smartwatches. The Venu X1 features a 2-inch AMOLED display, the largest screen in the Venu lineup. It is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and offers a resolution of 448 x 486 pixels.

The Venu X1 is Garmin’s thinnest watch to date, measuring 41 x 46 x 7.9 mm and weighing just 40 grams. It has a titanium caseback and fiber-reinforced polymer casing. The watch comes with a ComfortFit band for a comfortable wear.

The Venu X1 offers round-the-clock health and wellness monitoring, including HRV status, Body Battery energy monitoring, Morning Report, and advanced sleep tracking with a new breathing variations tool. It also has a built-in LED flashlight, over 100 sports apps, and preloaded TopoActive maps. The smartwatch has an integrated speaker and microphone, allowing users to make calls directly from the watch and use voice commands.

It can receive smart notifications from connected iOS or Android phones and has an integrated keyboard for replying. Other features include support for Garmin Pay contactless payments and a Find My Phone tool.

Introducing the Venu X1

The Garmin Venu X1 is expected to run for up to eight days in smartwatch mode. It will be available for order starting June 18th in two variants: Black with Slate Titanium Caseback and ComfortFit Nylon Band, and Moss with Titanium Caseback and Moss ComfortFit Nylon Band. Garmin has designed the Venu X1 to bridge the gap between its mainstream Venu series, aimed at recreationally active users, and the Forerunner series, which targets more serious athletes.

The result is a watch that offers a unique experience compared to the Apple Watch Ultra series. The Venu X1 incorporates many software features found in Forerunner 970-class devices, such as offline TopoActive mapping, Training Status, Training Readiness, and Endurance Score. It also includes new features like ClimbPro, Voice Notes, Strava Live Segments, Cycling Power Guide, Garmin Share, Focus Modes, Stamina feature, and a full Race Planning suite.

The watch supports additional sensors like Extended Display, Club Sensors, Range Finder, Garmin inReach, Shifting, and Shimano Di2. It includes a wide array of new sports profiles, especially for outdoor-focused activities. The Venu X1 maintains the Venu series’ two-button design while incorporating the core software found in Forerunner 970 or Fenix 8 devices.

It offers turn-by-turn prompts and map overlays for navigation, with customization options including multiple data pages and up to 8 data fields per page. Priced at $799, the Garmin Venu X1 aims to provide an enhanced user experience with its blend of advanced features and sleek design, appealing to both recreational users and serious athletes. It is a strong contender in the competitive smartwatch market, particularly against rivals like the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
