Nokia has announced a trio of internet exchange upgrade projects aimed at enhancing network performance and security across Japan, the UK, and Spain. In Japan, BBIX’s network will be upgraded to 400GE to handle growing data traffic. The deployment includes the 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) running the SR Linux Network Operating System (NOS).
Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Networks, Asia Pacific, remarked, “A thorough evaluation of our routing portfolio convinced BBIX of the strength of our solutions.” Hideyuki Sasaki, President & CEO at BBIX, added, “The solution provides the sophisticated capabilities we need to handle high-volume traffic while maintaining exceptional service quality.”
The London Internet Exchange (LINX) in the UK will be upgraded with a Deepfield DDoS security solution. This software-based DDoS detection and mitigation system will provide advanced network protection against the latest generations of DDoS threats.
Nokia enhances global IXP networks
Mike Hellers, Head of Product Development at LINX, stated, “With Deepfield, LINX will gain significant cybersecurity capabilities.” Paul Alexander, VP and Country General Manager UK&I, said, “With Deepfield, LINX will obtain critical DDoS security-related visibility, leveraging big data approach.”
In Spain, the first 400G connectivity for IXP customers will be implemented via ESpanix. The upgrade uses Interconnect routers for a more efficient and sustainable alternative to multiple 100GE connections. ESpanix will also utilize a Photonic Service Switch to optimize bandwidth across its optical transport network.
Amedeo Beck Peccoz, Head of Strategy, ESpanix, commented, “These solutions deliver the capacity and scalability we need to meet growing demand.”
Last year, contracts were announced with 23 IXPs, including prominent exchanges like Telehouse NYIIX, NL-ix, LINX NoVa, DE-CIX, and others. These IXPs collectively transport close to 45 Tbps of traffic during peak times. Andrew Wooden joins with an extensive career in tech journalism and content strategy.
