Seven essential tips to optimize your Apple Watch

Jeff Carlson shares seven tips to help Apple Watch owners get the most value from their devices. The first tip is to swipe between watch faces. This feature was removed in WatchOS 10.0 but returned due to user feedback.

To re-enable it, go to Settings > Clock and turn on Swipe to Switch Watch Face. The second tip is to stay on top of your health with the Vitals app. Introduced in WatchOS 11, it collects metrics such as heart rate, respiration, body temperature, and sleep duration.

This data helps you understand your health trends and alerts you to atypical readings. The third tip is to make the Smart Stack work for you. It allows quick access to information that might not fit into a “complication” on the watch face.

You can view tiles that show weather updates or photo memories. Live Activities, like food delivery statuses, also appear here. The fourth tip is to use the watch as a flashlight.

Activate it by pressing the side button to open Control Center and tapping the flashlight icon. Turn the digital crown to adjust brightness.

Swipe left for a flashing white screen or again for a bright red screen to increase visibility at night. The fifth tip is to pause your exercise rings if you’re traveling or ill. WatchOS 11 allows you to pause your rings by opening the Activity app, tapping the Weekly Summary button, and selecting Pause Rings.

You can pause them today until next week or month or set a custom duration. The sixth tip is to bypass the countdown to start a workout. For many workouts, a three-second countdown prepares you to begin.

If you’re already on the move, you can bypass this countdown by tapping it, ensuring you don’t lose any steps or activity data. The seventh tip is to force-quit an app. To force-quit an unresponsive app, double-press the Digital Crown to bring up recent apps, scroll to the problematic app, and swipe left until you see a large red button to force-quit.

Utilizing these tips can enhance your Apple Watch experience and make the most of its capabilities.
