Sky customers in various parts of the UK are experiencing significant internet outages this morning. The issues began around 5 am, with hundreds of users reporting total blackouts and dropped connections. A Sky spokesperson stated: “We are investigating an issue with Sky Broadband and Talk services affecting some customers in St Austell and surrounding areas.

We are extremely sorry for the disruption this may be causing and are working to get this resolved as soon as possible.”

The outages appear to be most severe in the southwest region, particularly in Cornwall. Residents in the St Austell area reported losing their Sky internet connection at around 10:30 pm on Monday, and the problems have persisted into Tuesday morning. According to DownDetector, a service tracking website, the number of complaints began to rise at 5:21 am, with 50 initial reports.

By 7:36 am, this number had surged to 467. While the southwest seems to be the worst-affected area, the DownDetector map shows that disruptions are occurring in major population hubs across the country, with London being the most impacted.

Sky services disrupted across UK

Frustrated customers are now calling on Sky to provide compensation for the inconvenience caused by the outage. Frank Spencer, a Sky customer, wrote: “Any compensation for Sky customers regarding the internet blackout in the southwest? Think all Sky customers should request compensation in writing for the interruption and inconvenience when a service paid for is not being provided.”

Users have also expressed dissatisfaction with Sky’s response to the issue.

Tony Bray, another affected customer, commented: “Dear Sky, we have lost broadband including phone lines for over an hour. Your service checker believes it’s all working yet your router understands it’s broken! Your call center is closed. Useless service.
