The announcement was made by Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5, who highlighted the console’s enhancements in three key areas: a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and custom AI-driven upscaling. The PS5 Pro will be available on November 7th at a price of $699.99.
It features a design similar to the PS5 Slim but with three distinctive stripes down the side. The console lacks a disc drive but offers optional console covers for customization.
Here are inflation adjusted prices for mainline PlayStation consoles since launch:
PS1: $611 (1995)
PS2: $546 (2000)
PS3: $778 (2006)
PS4: $538 (2013)
PS4 Pro: $522 (2016)
PS5: $606 (2020)

Cerny stated that the hardware upgrades result in a 45 percent faster rendering, significantly improving the detail and frame rates of games.
The following games are set for PS5 Pro Enhanced versions:
– Alan Wake 2
– Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
– Demon’s Souls
– Dragon’s Dogma 2
– Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
– Gran Turismo 7
– Hogwarts Legacy
– Horizon Forbidden West
– Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
– Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The primary objective of this upgrade is to eliminate the need for players to choose between performance and fidelity modes. “Players are choosing performance about three-quarters of the time,” says Cerny. The new console boasts a GPU with 67 percent more compute units than the current PS5 and 28 percent faster memory.
This upgrade enables faster rendering and better frame rates without sacrificing visual fidelity.
I reported earlier this year that PS5 Pro Enhanced games doesn't guarantee 60fps. Sony wasn't super clear on this yesterday, but there will still be 30fps PS5 Pro Enhanced games https://t.co/94JV7EGpD1

Sony suggests that ray-traced games will benefit significantly, allowing rays to be cast at double or even triple the speeds of the original PS5. The PS5 Pro introduces an innovative feature called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-powered upscaling technique similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR.
sony intros advanced PS5 Pro features
This technology aims to enhance frame rates and image quality for PlayStation games by replacing existing temporal anti-aliasing or upsampling methods. Cerny showcased several games running on the PS5 Pro, including “The Last of Us Part II” with increased detail, achieving 60fps, as opposed to the 30fps fidelity mode on the standard PS5.
Other games like “Spider-Man 2” and “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” are also set to benefit from these enhancements. Sony is including a “Game Boost” option for the PS5 Pro, applicable to over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. This feature is designed to stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games and enhance the resolution of select titles.
The PS5 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and 8K resolutions. It comes with a larger 2TB solid-state drive, replaces one rear USB-A port with an extra USB-C port, and retains an extra SSD slot for expansion. Games will need updates to leverage the PS5 Pro’s new features.
Sony has announced that developers are preparing free software updates for up to 50 titles by the November 7th launch, marking them as PS5 Pro Enhanced games. Initial titles include “Alan Wake 2,” “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” “Demon’s Souls,” “Dragon’s Dogma 2,” “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” “Gran Turismo 7,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” and more. The PS5 Pro is compatible with the PlayStation VR2 headset, the PlayStation Portal handheld, and existing PS5 controllers.
Sony confirmed that there would be no changes to the UI or network services for the PS5 Pro. Preorders for the PS5 Pro will start on September 26th, ahead of its launch on November 7th.
