The Xperia 1 VII features a familiar design with enthusiast-focused features such as expandable storage, a headphone jack, and high-quality hardware.

The camera system includes a new 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor, twice as large as the previous model’s, addressing past criticisms of its performance. The main and variable telephoto lenses remain unchanged. Sony has also integrated AI-powered camera features, such as a cropping tool that keeps human subjects centered in the frame, though this reduces the resolution to Full HD.

For audio, the Xperia 1 VII incorporates high-end components from Sony’s modern Walkman audio players.

It features higher quality solder in the headphone jack and supports AI-based DSEE Ultimate upscaling, Hi-Res audio, LDAC, and Dolby Atmos.

It includes smarter adaptive brightness with light sensors on both the front and back of the device, adjusting brightness, color gamut, and color temperature for optimal viewing.

The Xperia 1 VII is powered by a flagship processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded by up to another 2TB with a microSD card. Other features include an IP65/68 rating for water and dust resistance, wireless charging, and a 5,000mAh battery. However, Sony has committed to only four years of OS updates and six years of security patches, which is less support than offered by rivals Samsung and Google.
