Steam has introduced significant updates to how demos appear and behave within the Steam library. Valve is responding to feedback from developers and players. One of the primary updates allows users to add demos to their library without immediate installation.
Users can now click “add to library” and download the demo later. Demos will also now appear in all the same sections and lists as full games. This includes the new and trending chart.
Steam will automatically notify users if a demo becomes available for a game on their wishlist. Another improvement is that demos can be installed even if the user already owns the full game. This makes it easier for developers to test demos and for players to manage their installations.
Steam enhances demo library options
Users can explicitly remove demos from their account. Once uninstalled, the demo will be removed entirely from the library.
By default, free demos appear as a button on the full game’s store page. However, developers now have the option to create a full store page for their demos. This allows them to better describe the content, add screenshots, upload a trailer, and specify supported features.
If a demo has a dedicated store page, players can post reviews. The reviews will be displayed with a review score, similar to any other game on Steam. These changes are part of Valve’s ongoing effort to enhance user experience.
They also support developers in promoting their demos more effectively on the platform.
