The Nintendo Switch 2 editions of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” will not support cloud saves for data backup. This was discovered on the store pages for these games on the Switch 2. The pages state: “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” This disclaimer only appears on the pages for Zelda titles and not for other Switch 2 Edition games.
Many fans are confused by this, especially since the disclaimer is only on the US and EU store pages. It is not clear why this feature is not supported for Zelda games, while other Switch 2 titles do not have this limitation.
Zelda titles missing cloud saves
The lack of cloud save support means players cannot create new cloud save files as they progress in the game. Players can import their save data from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition, but once they continue playing, they won’t be able to back up their progress to the cloud. The reasons for this decision are unknown, and it raises questions about why Zelda games are being singled out for this restriction.
Despite this cloud save limitation, the Switch 2 Editions of original Switch games, including the Zelda titles, do offer various upgrades. These include better visuals, bringing a fresh experience to these beloved games. For now, fans are waiting for more details from Nintendo about the reasoning behind this decision.
