In a blog post titled “Key Software Development Trends,” S. Somasegar, senior vice president of the Microsoft Developer Division, explained how Microsoft intends to respond to some recent development trends. He notes, “More than ever before, today’s developers are open to considering and using multiple technologies to enable them to build solutions smoothly and deliver them to their customers quickly.”
With that in mind, Microsoft is investing in cloud computing with Azure, in the Web as a platform with Silverlight, and in agile development with Visual Studio 2010 IDE. The company will also make investments in parallel computing, new interface paradigms for new devices (touch, speech, etc.), and distributed development.
